Rhode Island 18-hour Approved Health and Safety Preservice Training Certificate
Early learning program administrators and family child care providers must ensure their staff complete trainings on specific health and safety topics, child development, and emergency preparedness and response, as required by the federal
Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF) regulations.
The Rhode Island Department of Human Services (DHS) Office of Childcare requires that all NEW full and part time staff in a DHS licensed facility complete the full suite of free online training modules offered below. Staff have 90 days upon hire to complete the full suite of trainings and must be able to provide a certificate of completion as documentation.
Those required to complete the training within 90 days of hire/start-up include:
- All Family Child Care providers, emergency assistants and assistants
- All child care administration, teachers, and teacher assistants
- Any floating staff and/or any substitutes
This free online training suite consists of 16 individual training modules totaling 18 RI approved PD hours, meeting Rhode Island DHS required "pre-service" professional development training requirements.
ALL modules must be completed to meet the pre-service PD requirement.
Eighteen RI approved PD hours will be awarded to approved participants one time, for the completion of the full suite of 16 modules.
Participants can track their progress of completion of individual modules on their Center dashboard.
The modules can be taken over time (within 90 days) and in no particular order.
A certificate of completion will be generated once participants complete the entire suite of required pre-service modules.
