In recent articles, we have discussed common FAQs regarding the Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential™. The CDA is the most widely recognized credential in early childhood education and represents the first step on the path of career advancement in the field. The distinctive CDA Credential is the only nationally recognized, portable, reciprocal, competency-based credential of its kind in the country.
To earn your CDA, you must complete 120 hours of Professional Education, as well as fulfill other requirements, which have been detailed in a previous posts. In this article, we'll discuss what CEU units are, and how you can keep track of them.
What are CEUs?
These are units awarded for participation in an organized continuing education experience under responsible sponsorship, capable direction and qualified instruction. They are non-credit educational experiences. One Continuing Education Unit (CEU) is equivalent to ten (10) contact hours of study.
Who issues CEUs?
Organizations accredited by the International Accreditors for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) can issue CEUs. ProSolutions Training is an IACET accredited organization, and can issue CEUs.
Will there be a record kept of the CEUs I've earned?
The program should keep a record of the course(s), date(s) and number of CEUs awarded for at least seven (7) years. Ask the director of the agency/program sponsoring your training program for further details.
